Can I Screen Print on your Tie Dye?
We’re often asked: “Can I screen print on a tie dyed garment?” The answer is yes! Most of the garments we make are sent directly to a screenprinter.
Our recommendations for screen printing are to mock up your design using our shirt images to make sure the colors of the printing stand out against the tie-dye background, and to ask your printer to use a white base layer under your art.
Using a white base layer on tie-dye shirts is beneficial for the following reasons:
-
Vibrancy: Printing on a white base layer helps the ink colors appear more vibrant, especially on multicolor tie-dye backgrounds. Without a white base layer, the various colors of the tie-dye pattern may affect the perceived color of the printed design and it won’t pop as well.
-
Opacity: Some ink colors may not show up well on certain areas of the tie-dye where the colors are darker or more saturated. A white base layer provides a solid background for the ink colors to stand out against, ensuring better opacity and color consistency.
-
Color Accuracy: Printing on a white base layer will help maintain the accuracy of the ink colors, as they won't be influenced by the underlying tie-dye colors. This is particularly important if your printed design needs to match a specific Pantone color swatch or meet your brand guidelines.
-
Adhesion: The white base layer improves ink adhesion, as it creates a smoother printing surface thus reducing the risk of ink bleeding or smudging.
We have a section on our site dedicated to Easy To Screen Print garments. These shirts all feature an open space in the center of the shirt so your art has room to stand out. We also think the look of screen print on our other designs is pretty great too!
We love to see how you express yourself using our tie dye blanks - send us photos so we can see how your screen print turns out!
